Audrey Demers Catering

Audrey catered our wedding on the Toronto Island in August 2011. She is experienced with food and is passionate about using natural ingredients. However, she is very unprofessional and difficult to deal with, which made working with her a challenge. I was a little concerned when researching Audrey that there is little information about her online, neither reviews nor a website despite the fact that she states 20+ years of experience. This should have been a red flag. I learned the hard way that Audrey is not a catering professional, she is a cook who claims to be a caterer but has no sense of business, event planning or management. Each conversation with Audrey would begin with her complaining about personal problems; from being stressed to having dental infections, issues which should never come up in discussions about a wedding meal with a client. We put up with her complaining and personal issues as we believed she was an expert at planning and coordinating events on the island. Unfortunately we were misled. Audrey is frazzled and incapable of event management. She mismanaged her staff, cost me more time, money and stress than was necessary and took advantage of my time and budget. She did not provide a tasting meal, even when we asked for one, a standard for wedding caterers. If you work with Audrey, be prepared for surprises. The day before the wedding my whole wedding party and family helped with the event preparation, from unloading trucks to kitchen prep, to pick up Audrey's slack. The day of the wedding the meal was served as scheduled and all went well, but when we received our final bill it was more than 60% higher than the quoted and agreed upon price!!! This was due to poor planning and management on Audrey's part. Her prices are too high for what she offers, her billing is inaccurate, she is disorganized and unprofessional. In the end, I was dissatisfied with her service. I would never work with her again and I would never recommend her to anyone.

I am extremely happy with our choice of caterer. Audrey surpassed our expectations providing wonderfully delicious food (especially her tasty roasted garlic and butternut squash lasagna with a rosemary bechamel!) that our guests continue to go on about weeks after the wedding. She chooses organic products from local farms and has a very flexible menu in order to suit your needs. Her staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help us set up and tear down on the big day. Because we had our wedding on the Toronto Islands there were a number of logistical problems we needed to sort out in terms of transporting food and supplies over to the islands and Audrey was essential resource for us as she has catered numerous weddings at the Ward's Island and Algonquin Island clubhouses and has worked at the Rectory Cafe. In fact, she has recently become the preferred caterer for weddings at the Algonquin Island Clubhouse. Audrey was always very personable and put us at ease. She was quick to respond to emails or phone messages and I am very grateful for all her help over the last couple of months. I highly recommend Audrey as a wedding caterer for weddings in Ontario, especially for anyone considering getting married on the Toronto Islands.
